Social Class

We watched a video called "Faking it - From Shop Girl to It Girl". What were the differences you noted between the different social classes represented in the film. What differences, if any, exist between the different social classes in your country. (Refer to language, eating, manners, dress, attitude etc....)

FOOD AND DRINK

The traditional eating and drinking habits in the UK are probably much different to your country. For example, what people eat and drink - at what times and with whom. Not only are eating habits different, but also taste.

On your blog, describe what is typical in this country. What do you find strange or surprising and how different is it in your country?

Politics and Government

After the recent election there is a Hung Parliament as no party received a majority. How is a party elected? What is an MP and why his/her job so important. Which parties do you think will form a coalition? Write about the outcome of the recent election or explain why an MP has such an important job.

Understanding academic culture

When you come to live and study in another country you have to get used to a culture that you may not be familiar with, both in your everyday life and in the university where you are studying. It's quite normal to find things different to your country and sometimes confusing or strange! Write on your blog about some of your experiences or anything you find strange or surprising.

The People of Britain

Britain is a diverse society. Many British people have family roots in other countries. People have been immigrating and settling here for several hundred years.

You will be given a sheet with the photos and names of some famous people who now live in the UK, but have their family roots elsewhere.

Research one of these people and their family roots.
